Shift Network’s slide serves as a cautionary tale to Planet Telecom.
As a western Canadian VoIP and telecommunications company focusing on small to medium sized businesses, Calgary’s Shift Network aimed its sights on much the same client base as Planet Telecom. There, the similarity between companies ends.
At a staff meeting in Edmonton, CEO and owner Dave Veilleux advised employees to not get tempted into smugness over the difficulties of a competitor. Rather, he said, Shift’s misfortunes serve as confirmation that we remain on the path we’re on to ensure Planet Telecom’s continuing stability.
“We will carry on with our good fiscal management which includes our core philosophy of not overspending resources,” Dave said. “The revenues we receive from our customers will go towards building the company and making it grow rather than using those revenues for debt financing.”
Dave expanded on his outlook by pointing out that, Planet Telecom does not have a top-heavy (and highly paid) executive structure.
