Security imaging in the 21st century

Security cameras move into the digital age

Forget the grainy black and white images of the typical security camera with Mobotix's megapixel resolution series. Bringing security images into the digital age.

Famed for its high-image quality, a Mobotix  camera installed on a apartment building was critical in clearly identifying a youth on a 14th-floor balcony who shot water balloons onto, amongst many others, a tot in a stroller. The culprit had been at work for some time until frustrated management installed the Mobotix system, which, with its zooming, tilting and panning capability brought in distinct pictures of every person on every balcony of the highrise.

CEO Dave Veilleux travelled from Edmonton, Alberta to a conference in Dallas this summer to investigate IP surveillance cameras as another service offered by Planet Telecom.

"It's a good fit with what we already do (VoIP and telecommunications), especially in our Western Canadian camp market," Dave said. "The German-engineered Mobotix  was the best in class-from picture resolution to its ability to have 16 gigabytes of onboard storage to the real time reporting of  anything amiss."

An IP system, the Mobotix will relay email messages when its motion sensors detect something in their field.  Because an IP phone is built in, a pre-recorded telephone message can also be sent when the sensor is set off.

An added benefit to being an IP system, especially for our oil and gas camp clients, is that images are stored off-site.

Since the cameras are on a Local Area Network, there are no worries of losing images in case of internet blackouts. Not really a concern here in Canada, but a great benefit to our Central American clients where internet unreliability is a given. Power is provided over Ethernet so no electrical supply is needed. With no moving parts, the cameras are mechanically maintenance free.

How is it possible to offer a cutting edge solution as less expensive than its counterparts with older technology?

"This system requires so many fewer cameras that the deployment and installation actually comes in for less money than traditional systems," Dave explained. As well, the camera's software and monitoring software are free. Planet Telecom also provides free, automatic software upgrades-as per our regular policy with IP phones purchased from us.

If you need further proof of Mobotix's world-class recognition, consider that 400 of their cameras are used for a World Wonder's security: that of the Panama Canal.

As Planet Telecom moves closer to opening 24/7 security monitoring stations, Mobotix is a natural choice for us because it delivers the best technology-wise.
