Planet Telecom has now opened an office in Panama, located in the western province of Chiriqui, in Panama's second largest city, David. With offices in the Banco Universal Tower (the largest, most modern building west of Panama City), the company is positioned to offer services throughout the province, President David Veilleux says the location was chosen for its proximity to all the major telecommunications suppliers, initial E1 PRI telephony and broadband Internet services were installed in early January 2009.
Utilizing the strengths, knowledge and experience gained throughout its other worldwide operations, David Veilleux, president of Planet Telecom in Canada has formed a new corporation to handle the operations in Panama.
Contracts are in place to provide Montanas de Caldera with a 30 mbps link from the David offices which will facilitate the delivery of high speed Internet and VoIP telephone services to this expatriate community which, when complete, will provide 300 with services exclusively from Planet Telecom.
Utilizing a 5.8mhz link with the latest in radio transmission equipment from Alvarion and Motorola Planet Telecom provides broadband data and telephone services with a high degree of reliability.
Negotiations are underway to acquire space on an existing 170 foot tower at Ciero Banco, located in the western highlands; this location will provide a radio footprint that covers almost the entire province, from this location, Internet and Telephone services will be provided on a Prepaid basis to nearly 300,000 residents.
President David Veilleux stated that this is a unique opportunity, “Currently, all of the Internet Service Providers (ISP’S) cater exclusively to the expatriate community, our solution, being prepaid, opens up the entire local population, who are reluctant to commit to a monthly service plan. When you look at the manner in which cellular service is delivered, almost completely by prepaid, it is easy to see how this type of service will have a huge uptake. The clients will be able to chose how much to spend. The system will provide different prepaid rates based on the access speed desired and therefore one family may use multiple prepaid cards to use different desired speeds.”
Planet Telecom looks forward to this exciting opportunity in Panama, which is mostly unaffected by the economic downturn currently being experienced elsewhere in the world.
